Organic cultivation Practices – Sheep in the Vineyard
Along with practices of carbon offsetting Taylors Wines has taken an innovative approach to keeping grasses and weeds under control. As of 2009 they reintroduced sheep into the vineyard for the first time in 25 years as visible in the image. This approach has produced promising results in the fact that it has not only kept grasses and weeds under control but added an additional fertiliser to the growing vines. A resultant impact of this introduction is the significant reduction of the requirement to use herbicides and pesticides to keep the vines in quality condition. Additionally, Taylors Wines advocates waste minimisation and pollution prevention for all site operations. The fact that they have reduced the need for pesticides has also reduced the need for tractors that require expensive and pollutant fuel.
